● Shizuoka - The Best Tea Producing Region in
Japan
Shizuoka Prefecture boasts the largest tea
plantation area in Japan, accounting for approximately 40% of
the country's tea plantations. It is renowned for producing
high-quality tea, often winning numerous awards at various tea
competitions.
● Shizuoka Tea Loved by Shogun
Shizuoka City is known for being the place where Tokugawa
Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, spent his later
years. It is said that Ieyasu kept a tea repository called the
"Ocha Toya Yashiki" (Tea Pottery Mansion) in Abe Oku and stored
tea presented as "Goyocha" (tribute tea). The tea was stored in
such a way that it retained its rich flavor in the cool
environment at an elevation of 1,200 meters, and it is said that
Ieyasu greatly enjoyed its deep and complex flavors.
[Japanese Sake from 27 Breweries in Shizuoka]
This is a sake born from the pure waters and Shizuoka's
original yeast called "Shizuoka Yeast."
● Shizuoka's Pure
Waters
The water polished by Mt. Fuji's basalt for over
100 years, natural water from the Tenryu Mountains where beech
primeval forests thrive, and the abundant water from the peaks
of the Southern Alps - the water of each brewery's sake is a
gift from Shizuoka's nature.
● Original Yeast "Shizuoka
Yeast"
The Shizuoka sake that now attracts attention from
all over Japan began in 1986 at the "All-Japan New Sake
Appraisal." Twenty-one breweries in Shizuoka Prefecture
participated, with 17 receiving awards, including 10 that won
gold medals. The driving force behind this achievement was the
"Shizuoka Yeast," an original yeast developed in Shizuoka
Prefecture. It brings out a soft fruitiness and is unique to the
sake produced in the region.
